Fusion Stylists Do Braids Beautifully

Move over messy pony, because braids are back in a big way! From runways to pop culture icons (Khaleesi gives us major braid envy regularly), we can’t get enough of one of this summer’s hottest trends. And really, it’s easy to see why we’ve fallen in love with braids all over again. We can’t think of any other hairstyle that is so versatile, statement-making, (not to mention practical) but also feminine and elegant.

So without further ado, here are some of our favorite braid-inspired looks:

The Beautiful Braided Updo

Ladies, let’s be honest. For brides, summer weddings may be a dream come true — but those of us in the South face a few additional challenges, whether it’s our own big day or we’re simply in attendance. One major challenge: finding the perfect hairstyle to withstand the heat and humidity. We present to you the braided updo. It’s the perfect combination of elegance and glam, with one or two Dutch braids on either side, twisted into a low, loose bun in back. Just pull it together and secure here and there with pins; part of its inherent loveliness is that it’s decidedly imperfect.

Especially when the weather is steamy, our stylists use Aveda’s Smooth Infusion Style-Prep Smoother to create smooth hair, defend against humidity for up to 12 hours, and protect against surface damage from heat styling. Derived from organic aloe, maize, and guar bean, the Smooth Infusion line isn’t magic, but it might feel like it.

Braided Buns

a little #spacebun action for our birthday girl @charisjene 💥💥 shout out to @idohairr for the color job 👌🏼

We love a great statement-making style! These braided messy buns (with a zigzag part!) showcase a fun and playful personality. We added some curls to complete the look and now she’s ready for a night out on the town (or a day at the beach). Bonus: the half-up ‘do shows off her killer color.

Whether it’s relaxing on the beach or leading the kingdom to a victory, these braids make sure you’re ready for whatever comes your way. They’re fun, quick and easy. Plus, they do an amazing job of keeping your hair off of your neck. And really, that’s the goal during the sweltering summer heat, right? Start at your natural part and braid away. Finish with a spritz of Aveda Air Control for additional grip—this hairspray adds a flexible, long-lasting hold without leaving your hair feeling weighed down.

Side Braid

Step up your glam game with a quick and effortless braid added to the front of your side part. It’s the perfect way to get your fringe out of your face for a day at the beach or a night out. Pro tip: For a more tussled look, pull the gently pull the braids apart.

Beachy Waves

Did you know you can use braids to help create the perfect beachy waves? It’s easy and effortless (two of our favorite qualities for killer summer hair). For voluminous waves and additional shine without the build-up, brush Phomollient Styling Foam through your damp hair before braiding. For the best results, leave the braids in overnight (we love to wrap them in a scarf while we sleep). Remember: the smaller the braids the tighter the waves. Make those beachy waves last longer (and keep away frizz), with Aveda’s new Texture Tonic. Bonus: It’s 98 percent naturally derived and is made from a sugar-salt combo to deliver that texture without drying.

We know it’s August but the heat will be sticking around (literally) for a few more months in the South. If you need help creating the perfect braid-inspired look, give us a call to schedule an appointment today.
